The Traumatic Experience
By Creassya

This has nothing to do with my series. This is mainly about Chandler and Monica, and it takes place sometime in season four. Monica isn't seeing anyone, but
Chandler is dating Kathy. I have to warn you that this is pretty dramatic.

SCENE: (Central Perk)

(Everyone is there including Kathy. Chandler and Kathy are sitting next to each other, and she's rubbing his leg. The site of them together was too much for Monica
to take. She couldn't understand how he could love Kathy. It wasn't that Monica didn't like her. She just didn't like her with Chandler. When they were at the beach,
Chandler kept trying to convince Monica that he would be good boyfriend material. So why did he give up on her so easily, she wondered. How could he forget
about me in that way? She had a million questions like that. She asked herself questions like that everyday she saw Chandler and Kathy together)

MONICA: (Stands up to leave) Okay guys, I'm out of here.
ROSS: Where are you going?
MONICA: (Looks at Chandler and Kathy) I'm just going home.
CHANDLER: Are you all right Mon?
MONICA: Yeah, I'm fine, just a little tired.

(She gets up and leaves. Chandler sensed that something was wrong with her, and he was worried. Lately she hasn't been herself. She seemed really sad)

KATHY: Well, Chandler, I have to get going. I have a lot of packing to do.
CHANDLER: (Not hearing what she said) What?
KATHY: I have to get going.
CHANDLER: Oh okay.
KATHY: (Looks at him strangely) Are you okay?
CHANDLER: Yeah, let me walk you out.

(They get up and leave)

RACHEL: Okay, counting down. Only three more days.
PHOEBE: Rachel, have you ever been hiking before?
RACHEL: Well...only once.
ROSS: I've been a million times.
RACHEL: Ross, summer camp doesn't count.
PHOEBE: That's true Ross.

(Ross bangs his fist together, and leaves)

SCENE: (Monica and Rachel's)

(Monica is washing dishes when Chandler comes in. As soon as he walked into a room she got butterflies in her stomach)

CHANDLER: Hey Mon, can I ask you something?
MONICA: (Stops washing dishes and sits at the kitchen table) Yeah, sure.
CHANDLER: You haven't been yourself lately. What's wrong?
MONICA: I'm fine. Why?
CHANDLER: I don't know. You just seem...I don't know...sad or something.
MONICA: I'm fine. It's just those long hours I've been working at the restaurant. That's all.
CHANDLER: (Reaches across the table and takes her hand in his) Are you sure. You know you can talk to me if there's anything wrong.

(She felt herself melting at the touch of his hands, and the concerned look in his eyes)

MONICA: I'm fine Chandler.
CHANDLER: (Not convinced) Well I'm right across the hall if you need to talk.
MONICA: I know.

SCENE: (Chandler and Joey's: Chandler's room)

(Chandler was in bed with Kathy. She was asleep, but he wasn't. It's 3 in the morning, and he found it difficult to go to sleep. He had a lot on his mind. Monica,
being one of them. He was worried about her, and whenever he expressed his concern for her, Kathy got upset. She said he was making too much out of it. Being in
a relationship with Kathy wasn't what he dreamed it would be. She wasn't as understanding as he expected her to be. He was wondering if he should break up with
her. He was a little aprehensive about letting her come with all of them to the mountains, but he figured it couldn't be that bad. Now he was having second thoughts)

SCENE: (Chandler and Joey's)

(Chandler is sitting in his chair when Joey comes in)

JOEY: Hey Chandler, what was up with you and Kathy this morning?
CHANDLER: It's our relationship. It's just not what I thought it would be.
JOEY: Well you gotta tell her.
CHANDLER: I know. We barely get along. I need someone who's my equal. Someone who's understanding.
JOEY: Do you love her?
CHANDLER: Well...I...no. I thought I did, but I was just infatuated with her I guess.
JOEY: Well, if you're not happy, you gotta tell her.

(Chandler knew what he had to do. He was never good at breaking up. He didn't want to hurt Kathy, but he wasn't happy. There was something missing in their
relationship, and he couldn't put his finger on it)

CHANDLER: So should I tell her before the trip, or after?
JOEY: That's a judgement call.
CHANDLER: C'mon Joey, I don't know what to do.
JOEY: Chandler, this is your relationship. You're gonna have to make decisions by yourself.

(Joey goes into his room and Chandler knew who would help him)

SCENE: (Monica and Rachel's)

(Chandler walks in as Monica is coming out of her room)

CHANDLER: Hey Mon.
MONICA: Hi.
CHANDLER: Listen, can I talk to you for a minute?
MONICA: Yeah sure.

(They both sit on the couch. Chandler began telling Monica about his relationship with Kathy, but she didn't hear a word he was saying. While he was talking, she
was looking into his eyes. She was fantisizing about how it would feel to kiss him. It was weird. She saw his lips moving, but didn't hear anything coming out of his
mouth. It was like she pressed the mute button to tune out what he was saying)

CHANDLER: So what do you think I should do?
MONICA: (Snapping out of it) Huh?
CHANDLER: (A little frustrated) Where you even listening to me?
MONICA: You were talking about Kathy.
CHANDLER: So what should I do?
MONICA: (Getting upset) I don't know Chandler. Why do you always come to me for stuff like this. You're a grown up. Can't you do anything on your own?
CHANDLER: (Hurt and upset) Well excuse me. I thought you were my friend. You never had a problem with this before.
MONICA: It's time for you to grow up. Why can't you see that? Why can't you ever be in a relationship where you don't need help making decisions? You know
what needs to be done, but you're too afraid to do it. And then you come crying to us like we're supposed to fix everything for you. What is your problem?
CHANDLER: (Shocked at Monica's sudden outburst) What's your problem? If you didn't want to help me, you should have just said so. (Gets up and storms out)

(Monica stands there with tears in her eyes. She instantly felt guilty. He looked so hurt. She didn't know she had that much anger in her. She was so feed up with him
coming to her about Kathy. Ever since he's gotten in a relationship with her that's all he talks about. He never has any fun. He's either disagreeing with her, or
complaing about her. She just wanted him to dump Kathy. Then she felt guilty for feeling that way)

SCENE: (Monica and Rachel's: The next day)

(Monica is coming out of the bathroom when Chandler comes in)

MONICA: (Shocked to see him) Chandler?
CHANDLER: I thought about what you said.

(Monica goes over to the couch to sit down, and Chandler sits on the table to face her)

MONICA: Chandler, I was way out of line. I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to hurt your feelings.
CHANDLER: No, you were right. I'm pathetic. I...
MONICA: (Interrupts him) That's not what I meant. You're not pathectic. I was just having a bad day, and I took it out on you. I'm so so sorry Chandler.
CHANDLER: (Sees that she's frowning up and rubbing her feet) You okay?
MONICA: Those long hours are really doing a number on my feet. They're killing me.

(He takes off her socks and starts messeaging her feet. She couldn't believe it. Just yesterday she was yelling at him and hurt his feelings, and now he's messaging her
feet. It felt good, but at the same time she felt really guilty)

CHANDLER: How does this feel?
MONICA: (Smiles) Like heaven, but I don't deserve this.
CHANDLER: Why not, you work hard.
MONICA: Chandler, how could you....I was horrible to you yesterday.
CHANDLER: Well...Joey basically told me the same thing you did before I came over here. I know I'm a major pain in the ass when it comes to relationship stuff.
MONICA: (Gets tears in her eyes) No you're not. We're your friends. We're supposed to be here for you, no matter what. You're a very sweet person who goes
out of his way for his friends. There's no reason we shouldn't do the same.
CHANDLER: (Notices tears in her eyes) Mon, why are you crying?
MONICA: I'm sorry. I just feel so bad about yelling at you, and here you are the next day rubbing me feet.

(Chandler stops rubbing her feet and goes to hug her. While he's hugging her she starts to cry even harder. She so embarrased that she quickly gets up and goes into
her room and closes the door)

CHANDLER: (Goes over and knocks on the door) Mon, what's wrong?
MONICA: I'll be fine Chandler...just leave me alone for while.
CHANDLER: But you're crying. I don't wanna leave you like this. Something is bothering you and I wish you would talk to me.
MONICA: Chandler please!

(Chandler stands there looking at the door, then he slowly walks out of the apartment)

SCENE: (Mountains outside NY)

(Everyone is there except Kathy. He and Kathy broke up the night before the trip. Monica bursting into tears really kept him from sleeping, and he was tired. He
desperately wanted to be there for her, but she wouldn't talk to him. He said hi to her, and all she did was wave at him. Everyone had a separate tent, so he decided
to go in and try to get some sleep while the others headed off to explore their surroundings)

SCENE: (Mountains)

(They gang is hiking up the mountains, but stops when the notice that Monica is far behind them)

ROSS: (Yelling back) Mon, keep up!
RACHEL: Ross it's kinda hard to keep up with you. You're walking too fast.
ROSS: Look I'm the expert here. I know what I'm doing.
PHOEBE: We've already heard this all the way here. Enough!
ROSS: Fine.
JOEY: Man I'm hungry. Can't we stop for a minute?
ROSS: Joey, we can rest when we get back to the tent. We're almost there.
MONICA: Ross, would you slow up?
JOEY: Yeah, Monica's tired.
ROSS: No Joey, you're tired.

SCENE: (Mountains: The tent area)

(As Chandler wakes up and comes out of the tent, he hears the rest of the gang. By the time they approach the tents they're all arguing)

CHANDLER: Hey. What's going on here?
PHOEBE: Mr. I know I'm the best hiker in the universe, got us lost!
RACHEL: I knew he didn't know what he was doing.
ROSS: Well...everything looks the same.
JOEY: Oh give it a rest.
ROSS: Well, I got us all back didn't I?
RACHEL: What? Monica got us back.
ROSS: Well....
MONICA: Guys enough. We've been arguing the whole way here. Let's just eat okay.
JOEY: (Smiles) Yeah. I like that idea.

SCENE: (Mountains: The next day)

(They're all out hiking with Ross way ahead of them. The others do their best to keep up with him except for Chandler and Monica. They don't say a word to each
other. Chandler's mind was elsewhere. He was looking at the ground almost the entire time they were walking. When he looked up, he noticed that everyone was
ahead of them. Monica was walking a little ways behind him. The others were so far ahead of them that he couldn't see them anymore)

CHANDLER: (Stops so that Monica can catch up to him) Mon come on.
MONICA: Why are you rushing me?
CHANDLER: Well...because they left us.
MONICA: So. I know my way back.
CHANDLER: Oh. Did they take this route yesterday?
MONICA: (Catching up to him) No.
CHANDLER: Well then how are we supposed to find our way back?
MONICA: Easy.
CHANDLER: So now you're the pro huh?
MONICA: (Gets offended) Back off Chandler!
CHANDLER: (Shocked) Monica! What is with you lately?
MONICA: It's none of you're business!
CHANDLER: (Puts his hands on her shoulder) Are you mad at me for something. I mean..did I do something to you?
MONICA: (Looks into his, and gets even more upset) Get off me!

(She walks off and he stays a safe distance behind her. Now he was genuinely worried about her. He was beginning to take her anger personally. It seemed like she
was only mad at him. He couldn't think of anything that he might have said or done to make her so mad at him)

(20 minutes later the rest of the gang is laughing and talking. Joey convinces them to stop for a minute. When they stop, Rachel realizes that Chandler and Monica
are no longer behind them)

RACHEL: Guys. Where's is Chandler and Monica?
PHOEBE: (Looks back) Well, they were just behind me.
JOEY: Are you sure Pheebs?
PHOEBE: Ummmm...
ROSS: Oh my god!
RACHEL: Ross, don't panick. We'll just go back.
PHOEBE: Yeah good idea.
JOEY: (Whining) All man. Can't we just wait for them here?
ROSS: Yeah, maybe we should do that.

(2 hours later, Chandler and Monica are by this small waterfall. There's trees all around of course, and small brooks. It was beautiful and hot. While Monica was
dipping her feet into the pool near the waterfall, Chandler looked around him in amazement. The sun was shinning down on the pool, the water was crystal clear, and
there wasn't a cloud in the sky. Even though he and Monica were lost he took the time to enjoy his surroundings. Then he goes over and stands by Monica)

CHANDLER: Mon, you ready?
MONICA: (Glares at him) Does it look like I'm ready?
CHANDLER: Fine.

(Chandler walks off angry. He was sick and tired of Monica snapping at him. He was so angry he didn't realize that he'd been walking by himself for 15 minutes)

(The rest of the gang is still waiting for Chandler and Monica)

RACHEL: Okay, it's been well over two hours. I say we go back.
ROSS: She's right.
JOEY: Oh now you wanna go back.
ROSS: What? You were the one who suggested that we stay here and wait.
JOEY: Yeah, for a couple minutes. Not hours!
PHOEBE: (Yelling) Shut up! This is not helping.
RACHEL: That's right. We need to go back and look for them.
PHOEBE: I think we should head back to the tents. Maybe the went back.
JOEY: It's worth a shot. What do say Ross?
ROSS: Fine with me.

SCENE: (Mountains: Tent area, 3 hours later)

(The gang has been waiting for Chandler and Monica by the tents for hours. It took them an hour to get from where they were back to the tents)

PHOEBE: It's all our fault. We should have stayed together.
ROSS: Phoebe, there's no time to place blame.
RACHEL: He's right. All we can do is wait.
JOEY: Don't we need to go get help?
PHOEBE: Yeah, we should get to a pay phone or something to call the police and tell them that we have two hikers missing.
RACHEL: Good idea. So who's going?

(Monica is walking around calling Chandler's name. She was beginning to get scared. The sun was starting to set and she didn't know where she was. She couldn't
believe Chandler just left her. She realized that she kept pissing him off, but she didn't think he would leave her by herself. She couldn't believe how mean she was to
him either. She was so frustrated. It felt like she was walking around in circles. Just then, she trips over a stick and some rocks and rolls down a hill really fast into a
river. She was unconscious by the time she hit the water)

(By the time Chandler reached the tent it was starting to get dark. He saw Ross and Rachel sitting by the fire. He knew he couldn't go back and tell Ross he had lost
Monica, or that he left her. He walked back by the pool, but she was gone. He decided that he would go back and find her, no matter how long it took him. He had
a really bad feeling that something was wrong. And if something happened to Monica he would never forgive himself. So he raced off to find her)

(Chandler is calling Monica's name. He was approaching a river. When he came closer to it, he noticed that someone was floating in the water face down. Terrior
clutched his heart when he realized the body floating in the river was Monica. He quickly ran in the water and swam to where she was. She wasn't that far out. He
carried her out of the water with tears in his eyes, and laid her down on the ground. He began to give her CPR. He tried and tried, but he couldn't bring her back.
He burries his face in his hands sobbing and blaming himself for leaving her. He couldn't believe this was happening. He took his hands from his face and told himself
that he wouldn't give up on her and he tried again)

SCENE: (Moutains: Tent Area)

(Ross and Rachel sit in silence. They were really worried about Chandler and Monica, and also Phoebe and Joey)

ROSS: Man, this was such a bad idea.
RACHEL: Ross, I'm sure everything will be okay.
ROSS: I hope so.
RACHEL: Chandler's with her. He wouldn't let anything happen to her.
ROSS: You're right. I wonder if Phoebe and Joey got help.
RACHEL: You don't think they got lost either do you?
ROSS: The thought crossed my mind.

SCENE: (A Hardware Store: A few miles back)

(Joey and Phoebe walk in. They walk over to the counter and explain to the guy behind the counter that there's an emergency and that they needed to call the police.
When the police get there they explain that they were hiking with four of their friends and that two of them are missing. They immeditately call for more police and
ask Joey and Phoebe to wait so that they can take them back up to the mountain)

SCENE: (Mountains: Near the river)

(Chandler was determined not to give up. He tried a fifth and a sixth time and she finally coughed up a mouth full of water. He was so relieved. He thought he had
lost Monica. He had never been so scared in all his life)

CHANDLER: (With tears streaming down his face) Monica?
MONICA: Chandler?

(Chandler goes to hug her, but she screams out in pain)

CHANDLER: Mon, what's wrong?
MONICA: It hurts. (Points to her sides)
CHANDLER: Oh my god, I think you might have broken ribs. Do you remember what happened?
MONICA: I fell.
CHANDLER: You fell? From where?
MONICA: I tripped and rolled down a hill.
CHANDLER: (Wipes his eyes) I'm so so so sorry Mon. This never would have happened if I hadn't left you.
MONICA: No, it was my fault.(Tries to move)
CHANDLER: Don't move.

(Chandler carefully picks Monica up and carries her back down the path)

SCENE: (Hardware Store)

JOEY: Man this sucks!
PHOEBE: I know. I just hope they're there when we get back.
JOEY: Yeah me too. I know Ross is probably going out of his mind right now.
PHOEBE: I just hope that nothing happened to them.

(The police motions for Joey and Phoebe to go with them. They get up and leave the store)

(It's now dark and Chandler is carrying Monica in his arms. He was a little worried because he didn't know exactly where they were. He thought he would
remember the path he took to find her, but it was hard for him to remember. He had been carrying her for a while and he was tired. Being that it was dark everything
looked a lot different. He didn't want to rest because he wanted to get Monica back to the tents as soon as possible. While he was carrying her he kept talking to
her so that she would stay awake. She was in and out of consciousness. When Chandler realized that he was going too far out he stopped to rest. He sits on the
ground with Monica on his lap. She opened her eyes when she felt him sit down)

MONICA: What's wrong?
CHANDLER: I don't remember what path I took to find you. When I couldn't find you earlier, I found my way back to the tents. Then when I saw that you
weren't there, I went back to look for you again. I thought I would remember what path I took to find you, but it's dark now.
MONICA: Maybe somebody will find us.
CHANDLER: Yeah, but I don't wanna wait that long. Nobody knows where we are. It could take a long time before they find us.

(Chandler notices that Monica is starting to drift off again, so he slowly stands up. She moans a little and opens her eyes)

MONICA: Chandler, thanks for saving my life.
CHANDLER: You don't have to thank me. This never happened if I stayed with you.
MONICA: That doesn't matter. You saved my life. So stop blaming yourself.
CHANDLER: I can't help it. This is all my fault.
MONICA: No, it's my fault. You never would have left if I wasn't being so mean to you.
CHANDLER: That's no excuse to leave you out here by yourself.
MONICA: (Touches his face) Stop doing this to yourself. You're the sweetest person I know. I'm so sorry for the way I treated you. I'm lucky to have you as a
friend, even though I wish you were more than a friend.
CHANDLER: (Shocked) What?
MONICA: (Drifting off again) Huh?
CHANDLER: Mon, wake up. What did you say?
MONICA: I wish you were more than my friend.

SCENE: Mountains: Tent Area)

(Ross and Rachel are still sitting by the fire waiting for Phoebe and Joey to come back with help)

RACHEL: What is taking so long?
ROSS: I feel so helpless. My sister and bestfriend are missing and I have to stay here and wait. I hate this!
RACHEL: I know. And what if Joey and Phoebe get lost. Then we'll have four people missing.
ROSS: Oh god. I don't even wanna think about that right now.

(Just then Joey and Phoebe come back with the police)

RACHEL: Oh thank God!
POLICE OFFICER #1: Are you two okay?
ROSS: No! My sister and bestfriend are missing.
POLICE OFFICER #2: We know that. (Looks at Joey and Phoebe) They've already explained everything to us. It's dark, and we don't need to waste time. I
need somebody to go with us to find them.
ROSS/RACHEL: We'll go.
POLICE OFFICER #2: All right, but the two of you should stay here in case they come back. (Referring to Phoebe and Joey)

(More police officers arrive at the tent area. They've all been given instructions to comb the mountain area, and for a police officer to stay with Joey and Phoebe.
They also brought in a first aid kit in case one or both of them are hurt)

(Chandler is still carrying Monica in his arms. It's now 2:30am. As he's walking, he trips over some rocks, but doesn't fall. Monica moans a little from the pain. Just
then the surroundings become familiar to him. He tripped over some rocks earlier on his way to finding Monica, so he stayed on the path. If he was right, he thought,
they should be back at the tent within 20 minutes. Not only was he tired and scared, but he found it difficult to kept Monica awake)

SCENE: (Mountain: River)

(Ross, Rachel, and the two police offiers arrive at the river where Chandler found Monica. Ross had a sickening feeling when they approaced the river. The police
officers took out their flashlights and began looking around the area. Five minutes later one of the police officers came over to Ross and Rachel holding a boot)

POLICE OFFICER #2: I found this floating ashore. Does it look familiar?
RACHEL: (Get tears in her eyes) Oh My God....that's Monica's.
ROSS: Are you sure?
RACHEL: Yes I'm sure!
POLICE OFFICER #1: Hey, don't panick. I know you're thinking the worst right now, but I may not be as bad as it looks.

(Rachel covers her face with her hands sobbing. Ross comes over and hugs her with tears in his eyes, both expected Chandler and Monica to be dead)

SCENE: (Mountains: Tent Area)

(Joey was pacing back and forth, and Phoebe had her face burried in her hands. This had to be the longest day ever, she thought to herself. She didn't notice that
Joey had stopped pacing, but she noticed when the police officer reached for his flashlight. They heard something, or someone. The officer told them to stay put
while he goes to check things out. All of a sudden, Chandler and Monica appear out of nowhere. Chandler was carrying Monica, who was passed out in his arms)

JOEY: Oh My God!
PHOEBE: What happened to her? Are you all right?
CHANDLER: Yeah, I'm fine, but Monica needs to go to the hospital.
OFFICER: (Comes out of a different direction) Are you two Chandler and Monica?
CHANDLER: Yeah, she needs a doctor.
PHOEBE: What happened?
CHANDLER: (Goes and sits down) She rolled down a hill...and..I...had to do CPR.
JOEY/PHOEBE: What?
CHANDLER: She went into a river when she fell and I pull her out. She wasn't breathing.
PHOEBE: Oh My God!
CHANDLER: Mon, wake up. We're here.
MONICA: (Open her eyes) Huh?
CHANDLER: We're here.

(The police officer radioed all his men and told them to come back to the tent area because the hikers found their way back)

(Ross and Rachel heard the good news. They were happy and relieved until they heard him say that the female hiker had been hurt, and that they were taking her to
a hospital)

(By the time Ross, Rachel and the other officers arrived at the tent area, Chandler, Monica, Phoebe, and Joey, were on their way to the nearest hospital. They
asked the officer that stayed with Joey and Phoebe what happened. He explained what happened and told them to pack up their things and he would take them to
the hospital. They packed their things in a hurry, not caring if they had everything, and they headed to the hospital)

SCENE: (Hospital: Waiting Room)

(Chandler, Phoebe, and Joey are in the waiting room when Ross, and Rachel get there. Ross and Rachel go over and hug Chandler. Ross was grateful to Chandler
because he saved Monica's life. Chandler felt very uneasy about the whole situation. He kept thinking that if he hadn't found her in time, she would be dead. All
because of him. Monica had told him not to mention that he left her by herself, not that he wanted to, but he felt like he was lying. She told him that she saw him walk
off, and she could have followed him, but she chose not too. Even though she had a point, he still blamed himself)

(The gang was in the waiting room. All are asleep except for Chandler. Whenever he would close his eyes he saw Monica floating in the river face down. He was on
his way to the water fountain when the doctor came down the hall)

DOCTOR SMITH: Mr. Bing?
CHANDLER: (Walks over to the doctor) Yeah. Is Monica okay?
DOCTOR SMITH: Yeah, she's fine. She's a very lucky woman. She has a few bumbs and bruises, and also broken ribs.
CHANDLER: Thank you doctor.
DOCTOR: Call me doctor Smith.
CHANDLER: Thanks doctor Smith.
DOCTOR SMITH: You wanna see her? She's been asking for you.
CHANDLER: Yeah sure. Doctor Smith...how long does she have to stay here?
DOCTOR SMITH: Oh, just until tomorrow. We just wanna keep her here for observation. She took quite a fall.

(Doctor Smith takes Chandler to Monica's room. He walks in slowly. He walks over by the window and sits in a chair next to her bed)

CHANDLER: Mon?
MONICA: (Turns her head towards him and opens her eyes) Hi Chandler.
CHANDLER: (Looks into her eyes) I don't know what to say.
MONICA: You don't have to say anything. I'm just glad you're here.
CHANDLER: And I'm glad you're alive. I lost it when you... when you...
MONICA: Stopped breathing?
CHANDLER: (Gets tears in his eyes) I will never...forgive myself for what happened to you.
MONICA: Don't do that Chandler. I chose to stay behind, and when I was walking, I tripped and fell. It was an accident.
CHANDLER: (Sobbing) Monica...I'm...so...so sorry.

(Chandler puts his head down sobbing. Monica looks at him with tears in her eyes. They were both blaming themself for what happened. Monica didn't want
Chandler to feel guilty. He was too busy blaming himself for what happened instead of being happy that he saved her life. She was running her fingers through his hair
thinking that it would calm him down, but it only made him cry more. She put herself in his shoes. It must have been really hard for him seeing me floating face down
in a river, she thought. She would have been the same way if the situation was reversed. She had never seen Chandler cry before. He was always joking around,
and making people laugh. Her heart went out to him. She realized that it would probably take a while before Chandler returned to his normal self, being that he
witnessed something so tramatic)

SCENE: (Hospital: The next day)

(Ross and Chandler walk into Monica's room. Both of them had flowers for her. They give her the flowers and Ross hugs her. Chandler helps her into the wheel
chair. He wheels her through the halls into the elevator and out of the hospital where the rest of the gang is waiting. He seemed to be in a much better mood.
Everyone hugged and kissed her, and Ross helps her into the car)

SCENE: (Chandler and Joey's: A couple weeks later)

(Chandler is in his room taking a nap. He hasn't been able to sleep. He keeps having nightmares about Monica's accident. He told her about the nightmares. She told
him it was weird because she didn't have nightmares. He sudden bolting upright sweating with tears in his eyes. The nightmares were becoming more vivid and real.
He felt like he was losing his mind. He also kept thinking about what Monica said to him on the night of the accident. She told him that she wished that they were
more than friends. He kept replaying the words in his head. He thought that she might have been delirious from head injuries, or that she felt like that because she
was grateful to him for saving her life. He wanted to know if she really meant it. He decided that he wouldn't wait any longer. He would go over and ask her if she
has feelings for him)

SCENE: (Monica and Rachel's)

(Chandler walks in as Rachel's on her way out. He was really nervous, but he knew he couldn't put it off any longer. He softly knocks on her bedroom door. From
inside the room she tells him to come in)

MONICA: (Her face lights up) Chandler!
CHANDLER: Hi.
MONICA: Are you okay?
CHANDLER: No, not really.
MONICA: What's wrong?
CHANDLER: (Goes over and sits on her bed) Well...you know that I have a lot on my mind.
MONICA: Yeah, I know.
CHANDLER: Well...I can't sleep because I keep having nightmares. I'm carrying around all this guilt, and...I keep thinking about what you said.
MONICA: (Frowns up her face) What did I say?
CHANDLER: The night of the accident. You said that you wish that I was more than a friend.
MONICA: (Looks embarassed) Well...
CHANDLER: Do you remember saying it?

(At first she was going to lie and she that she didn't remember what she said, but one thing that she learned from the accident is that if you feel a certain way about
somebody you should say it instead of being hostile and hiding the way you feel. If she had only told Chandler how she felt when he kept asking her what was
bothering her, she wouldn't have had so much anger towards him for being with Kathy instead of her, and he wouldn't have stormed off that day)

MONICA: Yeah, I remember.
CHANDLER: (Shocked and not knowing what else to say) Oh.
MONICA: (Takes a deep breath) And I meant it.
CHANDLER: (Even more shocked) W...Wh..What?
MONICA: The reason I was being so mean to you...was because I was jealous of Kathy. I couldn't understand how you could just give up on me so easily. I mean
the whole time we were at the beach you were trying to convince me that you would be good boyfriend material, and then next thing you know...Kathy's your
girlfriend. I couldn't stand seeing the two of you together.
CHANDLER: Mon, why didn't you ever tell me this before?
MONICA: I don't know. I wanted to be with you so bad, but you were with her. And by the time I realized I had feelings for you...it was too late.
CHANDLER: (Looks deep into her eyes) It's not too late...

(He moves closer to her and they kiss. Kissing Chandler was better than she imagined it would be)

MONICA: (Slowly pulls away) Wow!
CHANDLER: Mon, I never forgot about you in that way. That's one of the reason I broke up with Kathy. I was more concerned about you, than I was for her.
MONICA: Really?
CHANDLER: Yeah.
MONICA: (Puts her hand to her side) Man!
CHANDLER: Still in a lot pain huh?
MONICA: Just a little. It's not as bad as it was a couple weeks ago. I'll be fine. Especially since I know you feel the same way that I feel.
CHANDLER: (Smiles) Monica?
MONICA: Yeah?

(Chandler kisses her again. He put his hands to her face, careful not to touch the bandage on the side of her face. He imagined what it would be like to kiss her, but
never did he think if would feel this good. They didn't want to stop kissing each other. They secretly agreed to never take each other for granted again....)
