Opening Credits

[The next morning. Ross and Rachel’s hotel room. They’re in bed together fast asleep, cuddling. Rachel groans and opens her eyes and stretches. Her arm brushes against Ross. Her eyes open wide, startled. She turns her head slowly, to see who’s beside her. When she realizes its Ross, she sighs and relaxes. A minute later, she bolts upright, and yanks on a t-shirt. She had just remembered, that she and Ross aren’t together anymore. As Rachel yanks the t-shirt on, her ring (didn’t you notice it? Hehe) get’s stuck on the shirt. She glances at her hand, and almost screams in shock. Everything from the last night comes back.]

Rachel: Ross!! [no answer] ROSS!!!!!

[Ross rolls over and wakes up.]

Ross: What? [Pauses] Why are you here?

Rachel: Look! [she shoves her hand with the ring on it, in to his face]

Ross: So you’ve got a hand. Big deal. I’ve got two!

Rachel: Not the hand, look!

Ross: Just tell me! It’s to early for guessing games.

Rachel: The ring, the ring!

Ross: So, you always wear rings.

Rachel: Okay, no! Look at what finger it’s on and then look at the same finger on your hand!

[Ross looks, and look of shock covers his face. They turn and look at each other.]

R & R: Oh My God!!

[Cut to later. The whole gang is now gathered with Rachel and Ross.]

Rachel: I can’t believe this. I can’t believe I’m, we’re married!

Phoebe: I told you, you guys are lobsters.

Ross: Pheebs, we didn’t mean to get married. We were DRUNK!

Monica: I know! Chandler and I saw you guys leave.

Rachel: Why didn’t you stop us?

Chandler: Like she said. We say you guys *leave,* otherwise we would have! Besides, you guys were drunk out of your minds.

Ross: We can get it annulled, right?

Chandler: I think so, you guys were drunk, and didn’t know what you were doing!

Ross: [He’s calmed down a bit] Okay, then that’s what we’ll do!

[Rachel glances at Ross, upset with tears in her eyes. She runs into the bathroom, as she starts to cry. The others look at each other in shock. Phoebe walks over to the closed door.]

Phoebe: Rachel?

[Muffled sob]

Phoebe: Okay, get out! [She says this to the guys.]

Joey: Why?

Phoebe: Cos she won’t tell us what’s bugging her unless you guys leave!

Joey: She didn’t say that!

Monica: Just go!

[Monica and Phoebe push the guys out the door. Once the guys have left, they hurray over to the bathroom door.]

M & P: Rachel? [No answer] Rach!

Rachel: What?

Monica: Come out of the bathroom!

[The door opens slowly and Rachel walks out. Her face is streaked with tears]

Monica: Oh honey, what’s wrong?

[They all go and sit on the bed]

Rachel: It’s nothing.

Phoebe: Okay, crying and running into the bathroom is nothing? What’s really wrong? You can tell us.

Rachel: Okay, it’s, it’s just that Ross seems so eager to get our marriage annulled.

Monica: Isn’t that what you want too?

Rachel: Yeah... no! I always thought that I’d marry Ross, even after we split up. Then he found and married Emily, and it was like the worst time of my life. When they got divorced, I was so happy, but I couldn’t show it. I, I still love him you guys. This is what I’ve always wanted, but he doesn’t wait it. I, I guess I kind of want to stay married.

Phoebe: Well, I think you’re telling this to the wrong people!

Monica: Yeah, honey, you’ve got to let him know this. Otherwise you’re just going to be upset.

Rachel: I know, I know! I’ll talk to him, later. We can’t do anything today anyway.

Phoebe: Okay! [pause] Can we go eat now?

[Scene: Air plane. Rachel’s sitting alone, when Ross comes and sits down beside her]

Ross: Hey Rach!

Rachel: hii!! [The depressed hi, hehe]

Ross: What’s wrong? We’ll get this marriage annulled. It shouldn’t be a problem.

Rachel: I know! [She pauses]

Ross: What’s bugging you? You’re never this quiet!

Rachel: I, I don’t know how to say this.

Ross: Say what?

Rachel: Do you, do you really want to get this, our marriage, annulled?

Ross: Of course! What else would we do? It’s not as if we were dating or anything like that!

Rachel: I guess so. Excuse me. [She gets up and leaves. Ross sits there puzzled, and Monica comes and takes Rachels old seat.]

Monica: So what were you and Rachel talking about?

Ross: I asked her what was bugging her. She said nothing, but then asked if I really wanted to get our marriage annuleed.

Monica: What did you say?

Rss: What do you think!? I mean, it’s not like we could stay married, we haven’t been dating or anything.

Monica: Are you sure getting your marriage annulled as soon as possible is what you want?

Ross: What do you mean?

Monica: Just think about it!

[She gets up and leaves. Ross once again looks puzzled. The camera follows Monica back to her seat. Rachel’s sitting there waiting for her.]

Monica: I thought you were going to tell Ross!?

Rachel: I was. He just really want’s to get it annulled. I don’t think he loves me anymore.

Monica: Of course he does. He can’t read your mind, he’s not Phoebe. Tell him you love him!

Rachel: I know, I know. I’ll do it, later, I promise!

[Scene: Ross’ apartment. He’s sitting on his couch, staring at his ring. There’s a knock at the door. He opens it to see Rachel holding a bag.]

Ross: Hi, what’re you doing here?

Rachel: Well, I thought I should probably see my husband.

[They both laugh awkwardly]

Rachel: No, it’s just that Joey has a girl over and Monica and Chandler are, well y’know, and Phoebe’s disappeared. I wanted to know if I could spend the night?

Ross: Sure! Actually I was just about to watch a movie.

Rachel: What movie?

Ross: Scream 2.

Rachel: I haven’t seen that one yet!

Ross: Well, we can watch it together!

[Cut to later. Rachel and Ross are cuddled on the couch, both looking scared]

[Cut to later, Rachel and Ross are asleep on the couch, cuddling. The credits are rolling for the movie]

[Cut to the next morning. Ross wakes up and opens his eyes. He looks downs to see Rachel. He smiles to himself, and pulls a blanket over them. He leans his head down and kisses her. Rachel, waking up kisses Ross back. They break a way, looking at each other in the eyes]

R & R: We need to talk!

Ross: Yeah.

Rachel: What does this mean? I mean, what are we gonna do?

Ross: I, I don’t know. When I first found out we were married, all I wanted to do was get it annulled. But now...

Rachel: Now what?

Ross: I kinda like the thought of being married to you. I mean, after all, it has been my life long dream. I always thought that we’d marry some day.

Rachel: I, I know what you mean. But when you married Emily...

[Tears start to stream down Rachel’s face]

Ross: I never realized just how much I hurt you! I didn’t mean to. I never wanted to hurt you Rach!

Rachel: I know. And it still hurts, but every time I look at you... All I want to do is kiss you, hug you and be with you. It hurt a lot when we broke up, but when we didn’t get back together, it hurt even more. I just want to be with you again. And now that we’re married, maybe we could make “us” work again. I love you Ross. I really do!

Ross: I love you too Rach, but... I don’t know. We’ve been together twice now, and have broken up each time.

Rachel: Why can’t we date again. If it works, hey, we’re married. If it doesn’t, we’ll get it annulled.

Ross: I don’t know...

Rachel: Please Ross. Just let me have one last chance.

Ross: I, I can’t Rach. It’s too hard!

Rachel: Fine! [She wipes her face, trying to stop the steady stream of tears. She stands up and runs out the door. Ross stares after her for a minute, before he too, gets up and runs after her.]

[Scene: Monica and Rachel’s. Everyone but Ross and Rachel are there. Ross walks in, drenched!]

Ross: Is Rachel here?

Monica: Umm... Yeah, but she said she doesn’t want to talk to you, or see you!

Joey: What happened?

Ross: We had a fight. She wanted to give our relationship another chance, I said it was too hard, and she stormed out. I’ve been trying to find her since!

Phoebe: Why’s it too hard? You gave your relationship two other tries.

Ross: Every time we get together, something happens. I can’t take it anymore.

Monica: How selfish is that! God Ross, Rachel’s been in love with you ever since she met you and Julie at the airport. You could’ve at least given her a last chance. The last times you broke up were pretty awful. She’d probably like to have some good memories left.

Ross: I know, I know. I would to. I hate myself for what I’ve done. I use to say to myself, if we ever got together, I’d never hurt her and look what I did. Every time I see her cry... I feel like the worst person on earth, for making her cry and not being there to stop the pain!

Chandler: Oh my god! Could you BE anymore in love with her?

Monica: I know! Ross, just take Rachel out. Show her a good time. We’ll [points to herself, Phoebe, Chandler and Joey] pay for it, or help out in any way we can!

Ross: Like she’d go out with me after what I’ve done!

Phoebe: We’ll talk to her. Just be ready for tomorrow night, around six, okay?

Ross: Fine. [He turns to leave. But turns back] Thanks guys!

Chandler: You’re welcome!

[Scene: Rachel’s bedroom. Rachel’s lying face down on the bed, sobbing. Monica walks in hesitantly.]

Monica: Rachel?

Rachel: What?

Monica: I was talking to Ross...

Rachel: That’s nice.

Monica: Do you want to know what we were talking about?

Rachel: Does it matter? You’re going to tell me anyway.

Monica: Rach, he feels so bad about what he’s done. He’s agreed to go on one last date with you.

Rachel: Forget it. I don’t want to go. I can get my own dates, I don’t need pity ones!

Monica: Rach, please! He’s afraid of hurting you. He loves you too much, and is afraid of what he might do.

Rachel: Well, he doesn’t need to be afraid anymore. I’m over him. I can finally, truthfully say this. I am over him! I love him, but only as a friend, nothing more. I wanted to get back together, but that was the old Rachel. The new Rach want’s nothing to do with him over being a friend!

Monica: Then why were you in here crying?

Rachel: Remember when you and Richard broke up? It took you a little while to realize that he wasn’t the one for you. And while you were realizing that, you cried. Correct?

Monica: Yeah. Okay, bye Rach!

Rachel: Wait for me.

[They both walk out the door. Rachel smiling, and Monica looking confused.]

[Scene: Ross’ apartment. Ross is sitting on the couch, with Chandler, drinking beer. He’s depressed.]

Ross: I totally messed things up, right?

Chandler: Yeah.

Ross: Hey, your supposed to be comforting me!

Chandler: Sorry. Oh no Ross, you didn’t mess anything up. Rachel still loves you, with or without you!

Ross: That’s it! Thanks Chandler!

Chandler: What’d I do?

Ross: Bye!

[Ross runs out, leaving Chandler mistified.]

[Scene: Rachel and Monica’s apartment. Everyone minus Ross are sitting there. Doing whatever. Chandler and Monica are sitting on the chair. Rachel’s sitting on the window seat, staring out. Joey and Phoebe are playing cards. Ross walks in and over to Rachel. He’s holding a small bag in his hand. Ross silently hands it to Rachel. He then walks over to Phoebe and Joey. The camera stays focused on Rachel. Rachel slowly opens the bag, and pulls out a single sheet of paper, a engagement ring and a tape. She reads the page. The camera watches her, and Ross’ voice can be heard reading the letter.]

Ross v.o:

Dear Rach,

I know you don’t want anything to do with me, but I wanted to say a couple of things. You were right, I don’t seize the day so to say. So here’s my seizing, just some stuff I’ve never told you, and always regretted.
I know I’ve said I love you before, but I still do, and even if you don’t, I always will. We’re lobsters, according to Phoebe.
That night we took a break, it was the worse day and night in my whole life. I lost you that night, and sometimes I fear, I never managed to get you back, even as a friend. If I could take back what I did, I’d do it in a heart beat, but I can’t and hopefully one day you can forgive me for what I did.
I wanted to give you something that night, something I’d waited my whole life to say to you, but have still never gotten the chance to say. If you had looked in the picnic basket, you would’ve seen something that’s not normally found. It’s in your hand, and no, it’s not the tape. I’d write the words down, but they always seem to mean more when said aloud.
About Emily, I never said this to anyone, but sometimes I believe that when I said your name at the wedding, that maybe in my sub-consciousness, I had always expected my second wedding to be with you as my bride. And I’m still sorry it didn’t work out that way.
I can still not believe that I had agreed to never see you again. A friend would never do that to a friend, especially one they love. But I do love you Rach, believe me, I do!

PS Sometime, when you’re alone, listen to the tape. Side A’s just a memory, but Side B’s something I want you to know.

[Rachel glances over at Ross. He looks up and meets her eyes, smiling saddly. She glances back at the letter, and we can see tears gathering in her eyes.]

[Scene: Rachel’s bedroom. Rachel’s sitting on her bed, staring at the ring, the tape and letter. Rachel also has that box of things to do with her and Ross. Lying on top, is a picture of the two of them, taken just before they broke up and taped down the middle, as if it had been ripped apart at one point, then taped back together. Rachel picks up the tape, and after glancing at it, sticks it into a tape player. You can here Ross’s voice, from when he requested “With Or Without You” for Rachel. The song plays, and you can tell that Ross had recorded the song completely, deleting out where Rachel had phoned in and stoped the playing. As the song plays, there’s a montage of clips about Rachel and Ross. When they kissed and stuff like that. Good memories and bad ones. It then goes back to Rachel. The song ends, and she switches over the tape.]

Ross v.o.: Hey Rach. You might remember this song. It topped the charts back in 1994. Its by the Remembrants.

[“I’ll be there for you” plays, and once again there are clips about Rachel and Ross. These clips are all good, and are showing times when they helped each other out. After the song ends, it goes back to Rachel. Ross’ voice comes back on.]

Ross v.o.: I know you don’t want to be more then friends again, but how’d you like to meet me for a “friendly” coffee? I figured you listen to this when you had some time alone today, so I’ll wait in Central Perk around 9:45 till 10. I hope you’ll come. Bye, and I love you, Ross.

[Rachel stops the tape, and slowly removes it and sticks it and the letter in the box. She puts the box in the closet, glances at her watch and sticks the ring in her pocket.]

[Scene: In front of Central Perk. Ross is pacing back and forth, glancing at his watch. You can see Gunther closing up inside. Ross sighs, glances at his watch again, then turns like he’s about to leave.]

Rachel: Ross!!

[Ross turns around, to see Rachel coming around the corner.]

Ross: Rachel, I didn’t think you’d come.

Rachel: I can’t believe it. You were going to ask me to marry you, the night we broke up?

Ross: Umm.... yeah?!

Rachel: Why didn’t you tell me? Why?

Ross: You were too busy with your work. I was going to, but you kicked me out, then you came home and we had another fight. Then they next day, when you found out about Chloe, we fought again and there was never a right time. I was going to at the beach, but you wrote the letter and I didn’t get a chance.

Rachel: [Laughs softly] Just like there was never a chance to tell me you had feelings for me?!

Ross: Yeah...

Rachel: By the way, I know what you mean by not being able to get the other back even as a friend. I’ve felt it to. [pauses] I, I don’t know what to say Ross. This has got to be the sweetest thing you’ve ever done.

Ross: I love you Rach. I always have, always will. We’re lobsters!

Rachel: I, I love you too Ross and I’ve forgiven you. [laughs] I never could stay mad at you for long. [She reaches into her pocket, and takes out the ring.] Oh, by the way, here.

Ross: I don’t want the ring. Its yours. Look at the inside.

Rachel: [She glances in the ring, reading it softly out loud.] R 4 R 4 EVER. Thanks. But, here, save it for the right time. [She hands him the ring, and kisses him softly.]

Ross: Does this mean, does this mean we’re back together?

Rachel: Yeah, I think it does. What’d you think?

Ross: I think so too!

[Ross picks Rachel up, and they swing around, as they kiss. After a while they stop, and Ross goes down on one knee.]

Ross: Rachel, I know we’re offically married and I still think we should get it annulled. I want to marry you in front of our friends and our parents. So, will you marry me?

Rachel: Yes! I thought you’d never ask!

[Ross puts the ring on Rachels hand and then grabs her in a hug and a kiss.]
