STARTING A NEW LIFE

By Creassya

This takes place after Leaving Home. The gang was pretty emotional when Chandler and
Monica left. They had a going away party for them the night before. When they were on the
plane to Florida, Monica was extremely nervous and also excited about starting a new life.

Monica opened her eyes and turned over on her side. Chandler was sound asleep. She looked around her the room with a frown on her face and then seconds later, she
chuckled to herself. She had almost forgotten where she was. She loved her new apartment. It was bigger than the one she had left in New York. The minute that Chandler
and Monica got in her new apartment, they called the gang. Monica was describing her apartment to Phoebe and Rachel. Chandler watched her with a smile on his face.
He knew that she would like the apartment, but he didn't know she would fall in love with it. She was happy with they way everything was decorated, including the nursery,
which surprised Chandler. Monica stroked his hair. His back was to her. When he felt Monica fingers massaging his scalp, he slowly turned over on his back. He smiled at
her and she kissed him.

"So, are how are my girls?" Chandler asked touching her stomach.

"We're fine. It took me a while to go to sleep though."

"Why?"

"She kept kicking."

"That's because she's ready to come out." Chandler said kissing Monica's stomach.

"I can't believe that in less than two months, we're gonna be parents."

"I know. I can't wait to see her." Chandler said.

"Me either. Did I tell you how much I love this apartment?"

"A million times." He said grinning.

"Thank you Chandler." She said sincerely.

"For what?"

"For being so good to me."

"I'm supposed to be. You don't have to thank me."

"Yes I do. After what I went through with Keith, I didn't think it was possible to be this happy."

Chandler smiled and kissed her the back of her hand. When the baby kicked, she put her hand to her stomach next to his hand.

"I still wonder if she'll have your sense of humor." Monica said.

"Y'know Mon, I've never told anyone this, but when I was in a coma, I heard you mention something like that."

"You actually heard me?"

"Yeah, not everything though."

"Why didn't you tell me this before?"

"I don't know. I guess I just wasn't ready to talk about it then. I mean, I remember hearing you talk to me about certain things, but it took you forever to mention the baby. I
was lying there begging for you to say something to let me know that you didn't lose out baby. When you finally did.....

"You woke up that same day." Monica finished.

"Yeah." He said, touching her stomach again.

"Oh my God! She said, touching his face.

"It was so weird, everybody sounded so muffled."

"I'm glad you told me this." She said softly.

"I'm just glad it's behind us."

"Me too."

"I remember you asked me if I remembered that song you dedicated to me over the radio.

"Really?" Monica asked smiling.

"Yeah."

"Do you?"

"Of course I do. It wasn't that long ago. God Monica, I can't even describe how happy I was when I heard that song."

"Yeah, so happy that you forgot to call me back. I was glad that you showed up at my place instead though."

"I know." He said touching her face.

A few days later Phoebe and Joey were sitting on the couch kissing. Phoebe was on his lap, when the phone rang. Phoebe slowly got up, but Joey pulled her back down.

"Let's just let it ring." Joey said.

"No." She said giving him a peck on the lips.

She walked over to the counter and picked up the phone. It was Monica.

"Hey Mon!"

"Hey Pheebs, how's it going?"

"Everything's fine. Where's Chandler?"

"He's at work."

"Are you okay being there by yourself?"

"Yeah, I'm fine. You sound like Chandler. He called here five times to make sure that I was okay. He should be on his way back here for his lunch break though."

"He's gonna drive you crazy until the baby's born."

"I know. He acts like I'm so helpless."

"Awww give him a break. It's his first baby."

"Mine too." Monica said laughing.

"Hey Mon!"

"Monica, Joey says hi."

"Tell him I said hi."

"She says hi Joey."

"What's he doing anyway?"

"Waiting for me to finish making out with him."

"All right. I let you go." Monica said laughing.

"I'll call you tomorrow." Phoebe said.

"Okay. Bye."

"Bye."

Chandler walked in as soon as Monica hung up the phone.

"Hi sweetie." Monica said.

"Hi honey. You okay?" He asked walking over to her.

"Yes, will you lighten up?"

"I'm sorry. I just can't relax knowing that you're here all by yourself. I mean, when we were in New York, you were at work, around people."

"Sweetie, Jasmine and I will be fine."

Chandler gave her a soft peck on the lips and touched her face.

"I worry too much don't I?"

"Yeah, but it's only because you care." She said putting her arms around Chandler.

"That's true."

Two months later, while Monica was eating, she began to feel contractions. She slowly got up from the kitchen table and walked into her bedroom where Chandler was. He
was on the phone with Joey. Monica calmly walked over to Chandler and tapped him on the shoulder.

"Sweetie."

"Yeah." He answered turning around to face her.

"I'm in labor."

"What!"

"Yeah, I've been feeling pain for about ten minutes now."

"And you're just telling me?"

"Well, I wasn't sure if it was labor pains or indigestion."

"Joey, Monica's in labor, I'll call you back."

When Chandler hung up the phone, he put his hand to Monica's stomach.

"What did Joey say?"

"He said that he was going to tell the gang that you're in labor. Are you okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine."

"Okay, let's go." He said running into the other room.

Seconds later, Monica heard the door close, so she walked into the living room and noticed that Chandler was gone. He ran back into the apartment and went over to her
out of breath.

"Mon, I'm so sorry."

"Sweetie, relax, this could take hours."

"How can you be so calm?"

"I don't have much of a choice. I can't run around like you." She said smiling.

"Right."

He put his arm around her with his right hand to her stomach and walked her out of the apartment. Once they were in the car heading to the hospital, Monica kept telling
Chandler to calm down. She was afraid that they would get a ticket or get in a car accident.

"Sweetie you're a mess, you want me to drive?"

"No, I'll be fine."

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah."

Hours later, the gang was gathered at Rachel and Phoebe's, waiting for a call from Chandler.

"I wish we could be there." Rachel said.

"Me too." Ross said coming from the bathroom.

As soon as Ross sat down, the phone rang. Rachel picked it up on the first ring.

"Hello."

"Hey Rach." Chandler said.

"Hey, what's going on?"

"It was a false alarm."

"Guys, it was a false alarm." Rachel told the gang.

"She's all right?" Ross asked.

"Yeah, she's fine." Rachel answered.

They each talked to her for five minutes before they hung up. Monica laid on the couch to rest for a few minutes. Chandler came over and knelt down beside the couch.

"Are you finally calm?" She teased.

"Yeah. I'm sorry."

"It's okay." She said touching his face.

A week later, Chandler called Monica from work.

"Sweetie, I told you, I'm fine."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes. You've been doing this all week. Now you have a meeting to go to."

"I know, you're trying to get rid of me."

"No I'm not sweetie." Monica said smiling.

"All right. I'm going."

"I love you Chandler."

"I love you too."

Half way through the meeting, Chandler was informed that he had an important phone call and excused himself. He had a strong feeling that it was Monica.

"Monica?"

"Chandler, it's time."

"Are you sure?"

"Oh yeah."

"Okay, I'm leaving now."

"All right."

Chandler walked back into the meeting and informed him that his girlfriend was in labor. They wished him luck, and some congratulated him. He went back to his office to
get his things, and headed back home to Monica. Even though he was driving fast, it felt as if it was taking him forever to get to her apartment. When he finally reached her
place, he parked in front of the building, but when he got out of the car, he left the door open.

Monica was sitting on the couch with her hands on her stomach. Her pain was intensifying. She was happy to see Chandler burst through the door. He ran over to her and
helped her off the couch.

"Chandler, don't forget my bag."

"Where is it?" He asked in a panic.

"Sweetie, remember what we said about you being calm?"

"Yeah."

"It's right here next to the couch."

"Oh."

Chandler reached down and pick her bag up off the floor. Monica touched his face with both hands and looked into his eyes.

"It's gonna be okay." Monica said softly.

"Okay."

Monica gave him a soft peck on the mouth, which had a calming effect. He carefully walked her down the stairs and out the apartment building.

"Chandler, you left the car door open!"

"Oh my God!"

He quickly walked her to the car and let her in. Once she was in the car, walked around the drivers side and got in. He closed his eyes and tried to calm himself. He hoped
that he would get them to the hospital in one piece. While he was driving, Monica suddenly yelled out in pain, which made Chandler even more nervous. In his head, he
was telling himself to calm down and drive sensible, but every time he looked over in Monica's direction he began panicked. He felt so out of control. He told himself that
after the last time, he would have himself together. Monica was in pain, and he was about to become a father. It was all so overwhelming.

Phoebe and Joey were sitting on the couch in her and Rachel's apartment, kissing when the phone rang. Phoebe broke the kiss and reached over to answer the phone.

"Hello."

"Hey Pheebs, we're at the hospital. She's in labor for real this time."

"Really?"

"What happened?" Joey asked.

"Monica's in labor. There at the hospital."

"I'll call you guys later." Chandler said.

"Okay, we'll be here by the phone." Phoebe said.

Monica was in her hospital room lying in bed as if she weren't in labor. Chandler walked into the room nervously.

"Chandler, are you okay?"

"I'm nervous Mon."

"I can tell."

He touched Monica's face and kissed her forehead.

"You seem to be doing a little better."

"Yeah. The contractions are coming every eight minutes."

"Oh."

"So did you reach the gang?"

"Just Phoebe and Joey."

"Were they making out?" Monica asked grinning.

"Probably."

After a while, Monica's contractions began to get more and more painful. Chandler called for the doctor to come in. A minute later, he told Chandler that Monica was ready
to deliver. Chandler felt dizzy all of a sudden, so he grabbed on to the doctor to steady himself.

"Chandler, are you okay?" Monica asked while groaning in pain.

"Yeah, I just got a little dizzy that's all."

Once Monica was in the delivery room, Chandler got dizzy again and fainted.

"Oh my God, Chandler!" Monica called to him.

The doctor stayed with Monica while the nurses helped him off the floor. It only took them a few seconds to wake him up. They offered to take him outside the room until
he was all right, but he insisted on being by Monica's side. When he was able to stand up on his own, he stood there next to Monica and held her hand. When the doctor
ordered her to push, she squeezed Chandler's hand tightly.

"Okay, Monica, lay back and relax."

Monica laid back for a few seconds wishing that the baby would just come out without having to go through all the pain. She just wanted the baby in her arms.

"Okay, Monica, push."
